Hi Tom,
I’m one of your neighbors. I don’t think we’ve met yet, but I can’t say for sure. My memory is poor and getting poorer every day. But, I’ve got lots of company. There seems to be no shortage of people with memory problems in Sun City, Huntley. Shortly, we’ll be heading back to our winter place just north of Tucson, Arizona, and we won’t be back till the snow, ice and gray skies are gone. If you would like to get together then I’d like that… give me a call
It’s nice of Bill to keep everyone up to date about what’s happening in the neighborhood. However, other than sending a card or wishing a neighbor well, I usually don’t respond when I hear someone’s future is in doubt, and they may soon know the answer to the question we are all wondering about nd asking “Is there life after death.” But, your response to Bill about wanting more time to live caught my attention because it’s the elephant in the room no one wants to talk about.
One thing for sure, everyone in Sun City is heading for the curb. Some of us get a bit more time and some a bit less, but when it comes to death nobody gets a pass. For good or bad, some people get to take a look at their bucket list before they check out, and some people don’t. We could be interacting with them one day and the next day they have moved down the road. I’m not sure which is better. But, it’s clear, none of us knows for sure if we have minutes or decades left. In that sense, your situation is probably not very different from everyone else’s. However, you are talking about it openly and for that, I give you credit.
Lately, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about what I should do with the time I have left. So, if you have any thoughts you would like to share, shoot me an email. In the meantime, here’s a couple of old chestnuts… Life is not always fair which I’m sure you have also noticed. But, here is a second quote that has provided me with some comfort and perspective. “Don’t be sad it’s over… be glad it happened.”
Best wishes, John
